If If you feel that you are being mistreated by a spouse or intimate partner it is imperative that you develop a strategy to remove yourself from a potentially dangerous situation. Unless your partner is willing to get help and accept the fact that they need help, you will be fighting an uphill battle. By staying in a dangerous situation you are putting yourself in jeopardy. You may want to consider taking steps to leave. If you stay you may be emotionally harmed, physically injured, or killed.

Windows and Window Blinds:
Curious tots are quite adept when it comes to opening and closing things like windows. Use a window wedge to stop a window from opening too far. And, while you should make sure that your window screens are securely shut, it is important to note that a screen will NOT prevent your child from falling out.  Again protecting your child safety depends on you.

Loose cords that dangle from blinds pose the threat of strangulation. Keep all blind cords safely out of reach by using cord wind-ups. Or, better yet, opt to install cordless window coverings.

* The third greatest risk to children in America is drowning

* Throughout the world an average of 30 people per hour drown in pools, at beaches, and in other bodies of water. A large percentage of these victims are children 5 years of age and younger.

* In the United States the second leading cause of unintentional death in persons from 5 to 44 years old is drowning.

* For children under 14 years of age the primary cause of unintentional death is drowning.

* Drownings and near drownings tend to happen when children are in familiar surroundings being supervised by a parent. The drownings usually occurred during a supervisory lapse.

* Almost 70% of all children who were accidentally submerged were not expected to be near the pool at that time. 65% of these accidents happened in a pool owned by the family.

* It takes as little as 2 inches of water and 2 seconds for a child to drown.

* Children less than 1-year old are more likely to drown in buckets and bathtubs than older children are.

* In 90% of backyard drowning cases the parents eventually divorce.

* Drownings and near drownings occur in pools with perimeter fences and gate alarms.

ALWAYS THINK OF SAFETY:

* Never leave a child unattended in a pool, tub, or spa.

* Police both the areas inside and outside your pool. To gain access children may use chairs, boxes, ladders, and other objects left outside the pool.

* Wadding pools, buckets, and drains should be emptied of water when not in use and must be closely supervised when in use.

* If your pool is easily accessed through your home lock doggie doors.

* Never prop open a gate and leave it unattended.

* Install a passive pool alarm system that will protect the entire pool area. Simply putting an alarm on the gate or door is not enough. Such alarm systems can be neutralized and once this occurs there is nothing between your child and the water.

* Remember young children are usually naturally curious about the water but often lack an understanding of the dangers involved.

* Stress water safety.

* All members of your family should learn how to swim.

Pool safety is not an accident. Sound planning, careful supervision, and an alarm system that cannot be compromised are important elements that will help ensure the well being of your children and their friends. These efforts will not go unrewarded.
 

How sad is it that women need to make themselves aware of their options when planning their self-defense. A stun gun works on the basis of the fact that our bodies are controlled by small electrical charges. A stun gun has two small electrodes that, when the trigger is pulled, develop a high-voltage electrical charge between them. When these electrodes make contact with the body, it begins to fill the gap between the electrodes and becomes a conductor of the electrical charge. This electrical charge begins to interfere with the electrical pulses controlling our muscles, causing spasms and contractions. This in turn causes the subject to use a great deal of energy in a small amount of time, leaving them incapacitated.

Some stun guns are large and designed for a show of force, while others are small and easy to conceal. You can even buy a stun gun disguised as flashlight, a cellphone or an umbrella. All models are battery operated and deliver a charge that ranges from 20,000 to 800,000 volts. But the amperage is what really matters when measuring how much power is delivered, so be sure and check the wattage - this is a measure of both voltage and amperage. A higher wattage rating means more power is delivered.

A stun gun typically has two sets of electrodes, an inner and an outer set. The outer set is the business end of the stun gun - it actually deliver the electrical charge when placed in contact with your attacker’s body. The inner set is just for a show of force - when triggered it produces a bright spark and a loud crackling sound designed to warn your attacker that you are armed.

Doorways and cabinets can provide enticements to curious children, but even seemingly innocuous doors might pose hazards to young kids. The child cabinet lock prevents cabinet doors from opening all the way. It consists of two pieces of plastic, one attached to the inside door and the other attached to the inside of the door frame. The two pieces connect to form a durable catch which can be disconnected be exerting pressure on the joint point.
The catch lock requires a screwdriver or electric drill with a screw bit attached, but is very simple to install. First, take the section that attaches to the door and hold it against the door towards the top. Use a pen to mark where the screw should go. Using an electric drill with a drill bit attached, drill a little way into the wood to make a hole. Then affix the plastic piece with the screw opening over this hole and insert a screw. Using the electric drill again, but with a screw bit, install the screw into the food and firmly attach the fixture.
Next, take the catch and hold it up to the door frame. Note it’s important to practice closing the door to make sure that the two parts will connect at the right location. When you’ve found the proper location, mark with a pen where the screw should go and use the electric drill to make a small hole. Put the catch up and install a screw into the hole until the catch is firmly attached to the door frame. Once attached, you can close the cabinet door and connect the two sections. Now, when you pull the door, it will catch and not open all the way until the button release is depressed

Isn’t it annoying or even scary when you are trying to run, jog or walk then out of no where is a stray dog. It goes without saying, these canines, if not friendly can physically hurt or even kill you. If you come across this situation more frequently than not, it might be a good idea to carry some dog repellent spray or ultrasonic dog repeller.
If you plan to carry a dog spray repellent such as MUZZLE, get familiar with the shape of the container and carry it in your hand to be prepared if a dog starts running towards you. When using a spray repellent, you should aim toward the aggressive dog’s nose, mouth and eyes and quickly get away from him. These pepper based sprays reach a distance of approximately 10-12 feet. When dogs are sprayed, usually they run away or rub their face on the ground to try to take the painful irritant off. The effects usually wear out within a few minutes and it is harmless to dogs.

You can keep the button depressed until the dog leaves. The ultrasonic dog repeller mentioned above has a LED light to let you know it is emitting the sound. The light dims or turns off when it’s time to replace the battery.

Believe it or not there are several things that women can do to be pro active in preventing sexual assaults and possibly rapes. Knowing how an attacker thinks can work to your advantage. Potential victims can learn from these facts and put a plan in place to be better prepared to fend off an assault. THE CARRY. How you carry yourself makes an impression. If your head is up and you walk confidently and quickly you are less likely a target than someone with their head down and walking slowly-just a fact.

WHAT YOU CARRY. If you carry a mace pepper spray, taser, or stun gun and know how to use it not only will it give you a better sense of confidence but will also give you time to escape if you need to use it.
